1 JanPetar Stoychev second at WOWSA Awards 2011 Man Of The Year
Jamie Patrick is the 2011 World Open Water Swimming Man Of The Year in a close, down-to-the-wire vote with professional marathon swimming champion Petar Stoychev.
And like Jamie and Petar, all the WOWSA nominees and, indeed, all the men around the world, who do open water swims of their own scale embody the spirit of the sport, possess the requisite sense of adventure, tenacity and perseverance that the sport demands, and positively impact the global community of open water swimming.
The final vote tally is as follows:
- Jamie Patrick (USA) – Adventure Swimmer – 2,211 votes (24%)
- Petar Stoychev (Bulgaria) – World Professional Marathon Swimming Champion – 2,132 votes (23%)
- Salvatore Cimmino (Italy) – Champion of the Disabled – 913 votes (10%)
- Bruckner Chase (USA) – Ocean Advocacy and Awareness Visionary – 856 votes (9%)
- Stephen Redmond (Ireland) – Courageous Channel Challenger – 727 votes (8%)
- Dr. Roger Allsopp (Great Britain) – Barrier-Breaker – 550 votes (6%)
- Thomas Lurz (Germany) – World Professional Marathon Swimming Champion – 390 votes (4%)
- Yutaka Shinozaki – Japan International Open Water Swimming Association – 351 votes (4%)
- Spyridon Gianniotis (Greece) – World Professional Marathon Swimming Champion – 350 votes (4%)
- Simon Murie (England) – Open Water Swimming Tour Operator and Enabler – 300 votes (3%)
- Doug Woodring (Hong Kong) –Ocean Recovery Alliance Visionary – 249 votes (3%)
- Simon Griffiths (England) – Open Water Swimming Publisher Visionary – 207 votes (2%)
